Possibly the worst label idea in recent times – initiating a new record label to release a 10” vinyl containing 8 Danish underground bands, all covering the same song. The original song being covered is even unknown to add further to poor judgment…
However, it has been important for newly started vinyl-only label, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REASON FOR SCREAMING RECORDS, to position itself from the beginning. To do the unexpected, bring the danger and power back in a stagnant industry while maintaining a soaring level of quality.

The actual idea behind this release originates from a common perception that the track “Heatseeker” by Dutch punk rock ‘n’ roll trio PETER PAN SPEEDROCK very well could be considered as one of thee standout songs of
all time. As a matter of fact the song is so thoroughly brilliant in its simplicity and structure that it immediately spawned two infantile thoughts that should be dropped in a heartbeat, as is meet and proper, but were kept alive. Who, in their right age, can honestly say that they haven’t had a Maxell XLII
cassette tape containing the same song on side 1? Later came auto-reverse and you could include your other favourite songs on side 2 without the hassle and discomfort of rewinding or fast forwarding. We have been there and are not ashamed. This very thought we have taken a baby step further by imagining how the song would sound in different versions by other bands. That demanded no
mentionable imagination and the project, the line-up of bands, the cover artwork, the label name and the actual record label was born – in 4 hours on a cold afternoon on the 10th of January.

The selection of the 8 Danish bands is carefully accommodated to what we feel will give the most diverse experience hearing versions of the same song
repeatedly. But the selection is also a token of where we feel a major part of the Danish creativity lies hidden. The technical death metal wonder KOLDBORN, the ultra creative and unconventional THE PSYKE PROJECT, the relentless pop-punk machine THE 20BELOWS, Denmark’s new death ‘n’ roll project PARASIGHT, hardcore par excellence LAST
MILE, horror/sci-fi punk driven THE HITCHCOCKS, the dancing-mad ska/rocksteady shooting stars BABYLOVE & THE VAN DANGOS and finally the indie pop cooperation between I Am Bones and Beta Satan, cunningly entitled I AM SATAN are the 8 bands who each deliver their take on how they interpret the best song in the world!

There you go! That is the project in short. And most likely not the last one in line. The wheel is not reinvented but what the hell happened to the passion, the reason for screaming and the willingness to take chances? This HEATSEEKER compilation is a spit in the other direction – please enjoy!
